The day started with a cave in, which we had to back fill in with stone, as we simultaneously filled the rest of the trench with even more stone. Lots of heavy lifting. Once filled, we began to set up some 2×10 pieces of wood along the inner wall of the trench to act as a mold and brace for the concrete to set up. Once everything was leveled out and measurements were double checked, we added the last ingredient, the rebar. Once in place, we were ready to pour!
The concrete truck arrived at around 2:30 pm, and shovels were back in hand. The pour went very well, and the grade beam was topped off in no time. Once the concrete was poured, we quickly and carefully went around the parameter and set anchor bolts into the concrete while it was still wet. These bolts will be used to thread on posts to support our straw bale walls.
Basically in the past three days we dug a hole, and then filled it back up.
Next step is to build our straw bale walls, but for tonight, we are ready to relax by our campfire on the lake!
Happy Star Wars Day! May the force be with you
